Tansu with Circular Lockplates

This very attractive Japanese Tansu Has a number of rare or unusual features. The circular lock plates are multimetal with what appear to be bronze rings around the iron centers. Seldom seen, the lock plates are doubled up on the small treasure drawers. Additional features include The heavy drawer-pulls, which are cast with a confronting Dragonhead design, and the finally figured woodgrain on the naturally colored drawer fronts, which contrast nicely with the black lacquer top and sides. On the sides of the tansu are a pair of iron handles (for moving the cabinet short distances ) and large pole-carrying handles for longer distances.
