This tasteful and finally crafted Japanese-covered box has a pleasingly subdued “gold“dusted background with a single leafy gold lacquered tree depicted on each side and top. Overall, it would be described as “scholars' taste,” with each tree completed using both the top and bottom parts of the box. Silver-colored metal protects the connecting edges of the top and bottom, with an additional decorated loose ring handle on either side.

Late Edo (1368-1603) or Early Meiji periods (1868-1912).
