This rare and artistically pleasing Japanese stand/table was created using high relief, gold, and colored lacquers with mother-of-pearl inlay. Aside from the naturally rendered flora depicted on the top of the stand, delicate and finally done mother pearl inlays depicting the classic “Precious Objects” adorn the sides. This stand probably had additional feet at one time. However, based on the wear patterns and patina, they most likely were removed quite some time ago. It is unknown whether that was done for personal taste reasons or through damage. But we do know that the result is more than sufficiently lovely. Late Edo Early Meiji.
